S ND Y P RL RS - bring death to (211)

A demo (2005), a mini-album (2007) and a split with Anois (2007), and (Songs for) Sundays Parlours, a duo from Germany disappeared from the surface of the netlabel scene, only to reappear in 2001 as a solo project, having lost a few vowels in the meantime.

S ND Y P RL RS is the solo project of Malte Cornelius Jantzen and if I can recognize his voice and introspective folk songwriting, the global mood of this debut album is quite dark, leadened, full of both disillusionment and of an inner rage, gone are the electric guitar and the sweet folk melodies. Comparisons are uneasy because it is mostly a process of intensity but I am tempted to cite Squares on both Sides and Bill Callahan (Smog).

Processed and reverberated electric guitar, with electric piano, occasional drums and his vocals, "Bring Death to" is a slow and haunted highly personal record, which is never highly seductive. You almost have to force yourself entering his gloomy world.

Hopefully a few tracks are offering tiny lights of hope and of comforting melancholy, making the listening their depth and sensitivity more palpable and accurate : "The fight song", "24", "1951" and "Darla".
